Terry Allen
Multimedia artist and songwriter Terry Allen creates object-based and
performance works that he builds from narratives drawn from historical events,
personal memories, pop culture, and the American landscape. For his exhibition Ghost
Ship Rodez: The Momo Chronicles (2008-11), comprised of a series of multimedia
installations and sculptures, Allen drew inspiration from the life of French
artist, playwright, and actor Antonin Artaud. Explaining his fascination with
Artaud, Allen said: “The inner life of any true artist has the traits of three
essential characters: children (they are innocent), criminals (they break
rules), and the insane (they inhabit another world).” In addition to
sculptures, collages, drawings, recordings, and installations, Allen has also
produced performances and public commissions.
